Seeding Instructions

1. Kill and remove all weeds prior to planting. See notes about preparing the soil in the Seed Mix Establishment Guide.

2. Mix seed in a small amount of ‘carrier’ (peat moss, sawdust, or sand). This will aid in distributing the seed over a large area. Use 1 large coffee can/Ice Cream bucket or 1/4 of a 5 gallon bucket of carrier.

3. Mix the seed into the ‘carrier,’ and then dampen with water to make the entire mix slightly damp. Too much water, the carrier won’t spread easily. Not enough water, the seed won’t stick to the carrier.

4. Divide this mixture in 2 parts.

5. Scatter the first part (small handfuls of the seed) over the prepared site waking north to south.

6. Scatter the remaining seed walking east to west.

7. Rake seed into soil, covering by 1/8 inch soil.

8. Press or roll the seeded area to firm seed into soil.

9. Apply weed free straw over the site covering to 1 inch. Straw helps to keep seeds in place.

10. SPRING SEEDING: from March 1 until June 30.

11. Water site to 1 inch per week for the 1st month. Germination takes a few weeks, depending on the species of wildflower or grass. See note about watering in seed establishment guide at the bottom.

12. FALL SEEDING: from mid September until soil freeze-up. Fall seedings are dormant.
